For many years The Tasty Ski Company have been welcoming season workers to Morzine. But what do you need to bring with you? What kind of experience can you expect? If you’re Alps-bound this month, here’s ten tips courtesy of The Tasty team.
1 – Bring sun cream: Chances are it will be pretty cold when you arrive in resort. But we get a lot of sunshine in the Alps as well, particularly in March and April. The rays are stronger at altitude and are intensified from the snow’s reflection.
2 – Book some ski or snowboard lessons. You have five months to become amazing at a skill you will have for life. Most ski and snowboard schools offer discounted seasonnaire lessons, even more discounted if you recommend them to your clients.
3 – Download the Hideout App. New for this winter, the Hideout App gives locals discounted drinks at all the best spots in town. It’s free to download and you get updated with all the events going on during the season
4 – Bring your swimming trunks: Morzine has a great indoor swimming pool with a wellness area that has a number of saunas and steam rooms. But remember, boys you are in France, so Speedos only, no shorts!
5 – Play Beer Pong at Cafe Chaud on a Tuesday night. An institution in Morzine and the best way to start your day off if it’s on a Wednesday. €18 for a 4-pint jug of beer and everyone’s there. What’s not to like?
6 – Get in ski shape: Skiing and snowboarding are the best sports in the world but they are exhausting. do some core stability and stretching exercises for a couple of weeks before hitting the slopes. You will get much better and it will also reduce the chances of getting injured.
7 – Get insurance: boring but essential. If you want to venture off-piste, make sure your insurance covers this. Reap the benefits of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) while the UK still in the EU!
8 – Learn a bit of French: this might be the only time you spend a full five months out of your home country. Embrace the chance to speak a new language. The Morzinoise love it if you can order your drink in French!
9 – Go to The Stash: A snowpark heading into the Lindarets bowl in Avoriaz which caters for a mixture of freeride and freestyle. It’s where all the cool kids hang out.
10 – Work hard play hard: Working a season is exhausting but also one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. You will make loads of friends and you might like it so much that you end up staying here. Come with the right attitude and it’s the place that will keep on giving!
