As you may have read in our interview with a professional mountain designer, snowmaking is what’s been keeping many resorts running in the face of global warming. Over the past few years, Morzine, Avoriaz and the entirety of les Portes du Soleil have been investing heavily in their snowmaking infrastructure to make it easier for us to make our way around the mountain when the conditions are less than desirable.
It’s no surprise, then, that Morzine is keen to show off its expertise in the snowmaking field by offering FREE guided tours of its high-tech facilities. Intrigued? You should be. It’s not often that the general public is allowed to see and experience the inner workings of a ski resort, but this year, Morzine is pulling out all the stops.

Pleney is home to some of the lowest slopes in resort, so its only natural that a lot of artificial snow goes into keeping them in action. During a guided tour of Pleney’s snowmaking factory, you’ll learn from a professional the science that goes into making snow; it’s a fine art that requires precision, the right temperatures and lots of special machinery that converts water to neige and then transfers it to the pistes.
Morzine will be running these tours in peak holiday weeks only, so that’s throughout the Christmas period and February half term weeks. A great experience for kids and adults alike, these tours are a great opportunity to discover how the magic happens and learn all about how snow is made. You’ll also come away with lots of fun facts to impress your friends back home with!

Tours will be running from 2pm until 4pm on the 28th December and 2nd January, and then every Monday from 2pm until 4pm from the 12th February until the 5th March. The meeting point is at the Pleney lift ticket office. It’s not necessary to book but it’s always good to give the facility a call beforehand to confirm your place on +33 4 50 79 00 38.
