Good News for Everyone: the new winter season pass prices explained

As you may have seen after we published the winter 2018 / 19 lift pass prices for Morzine and the Portes du Soleil, there have been a few changes to the season pass pricing system this winter. We’ve had a good catch-up with the team at the Pleney lift pass office to get the full details.

The Portes du Soleil Season Pass

For as long as we can remember Morzine has supported local residents and workers by offering a discounted Portes du Soleil season pass alongside a separate local area pass that encompasses Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets. This winter a few changes are coming about because of a French law that states it’s illegal to charge people different amounts based on where they live as it’s seen as discriminatory. The French resorts of the PDS have decided to comply with this law, so now EVERYONE is entitled to a discounted rate on the Portes du Soleil season pass. This winter, everyone will be able benefit from a discounted season pass offer of €774 (the same level of discount as in previous years when the pass was only available to local residents), instead of €958, on an early-bird or employee basis.

Season workers and employers will be happy to learn that it will still be possible to buy a PDS pass at the same discounted rate of €774 when the lift pass office opens on 24th November, as per usual. You will need to provide identification and your work contract.

For non-employees, a NEW early-bird deal is now available, which allows passes to be purchased online at the same discounted rate of €774 until the 7^th October (or €871 if you buy between the 1st October and 15th November). Passes will be available to buy online from the 1^st September from ski-morzine.com.

So, if you’re planning to come out a few times over the winter, or have a second home in the valley this will be a massive benefit. It’s also great news for those who live further down the valley and haven’t previously been entitled to a discounted pass. The PDS pass provides amazing value, allowing you to ski in twelve resorts across two countries, so we think it’s a step in the right direction that more people will be able to benefit from this new offer.

The Under-26 Border Pass

In the eyes of the law it’s not considered discriminatory to offer different prices based on age, which is why the PDS is continuing to offer the massively discounted PDS Border Pass to those under 26 years old (born after 15^th November 1992), as well as free PDS season passes to children under twelve alongside the purchase of an adult’s PDS season pass (parent or guardian). However, the Border Pass is time-sensitive so to benefit from the maximum discount make sure you buy yours online before the 30^th September 2018.

The PNGA Pass

We have also been informed that there will be no change to the PNGA (Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets season pass) this winter –  it will still be available to Morzine workers and residents at a price that’s still to be confirmed, but is likely to be around the €380 – €390 mark. We were informed that no discussion has taken place between the three resorts on what action to take with regards to the law for this winter, although it may be subject to review in future years. Again, the PNGA will be available from the Pleney lift pass office from 24th November and you’ll need to provide ID, along with either your Morzine work contract or proof of annual primary residence in Morzine.

The Beginners’ Pass

Don’t forget that Morzine has also taken into account lots of customer feedback from last winter and this year will be offering a beginners’ pass to lessen the financial stress of learning to ski! The pass will provide access to the beginner slopes on the Pleney, as well as a few of the green and blue runs to help first-time skiers and snowboarders find their feet before venturing into the wider PDS area. We’ll update you with pricing and access details very soon.
